Program Overview
Similar to a kinesiology degree or sports medicine degree, the exercise science major at Â鶹Æƽ⴫ý is an excellent choice for students interested in careers in personal training, kinesiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, medical rehabilitation, exercise physiology, nursing, medicine, and corporate fitness and wellness.
Students majoring in exercise science who wish to pursue graduate degrees in either occupational therapy or physical therapy at Â鶹Æƽ⴫ý may choose electives to satisfy additional prerequisites for these programs.

Popular Courses
Students explore relevant health professions and requirements for job and market demands in health sciences through an interprofessional lens. Through the introduction of a broad scope of current issues in health care, students evaluate the circumstances and path for their professional education and future career. Topics such as disability, community health, world health, and health care policies are considered.
This course addresses human development throughout the life span. In particular, physical, social, and cognitive changes are studied as well as important interactions among these dimensions. There is an emphasis on various developmental theories and the research and methods that support those theories.
The immediate and long-term effects of exercise on the body will be examined, including the impact on various body systems, nutrition, and weight management. Measurements used to evaluate fitness such as aerobic capacity testing and determination of body composition will also be included.
The basic principles of kinesiology and exercise physiology will be applied to assessing physical fitness and making appropriate recommendations for exercise prescription and programming. Nutrition and weight management, special populations and aging will be discussed. Application of fitness assessment and exercise prescription will be applied to special populations.

Through this hands-on experience, students work under the direct supervision of a practicing professional — an invaluable opportunity to put coursework to use, learn new skills and make professional connections in preparation for a successful career.
